1st Place: Johnny Allen, California
Johnny won a $250 donation to the charity of his choice, a Mitchell Golf t-shirt, hat and apron! In his own words:
“Pretty neat, the Tarheels really rose to the occasion! Gonzaga was a formidable and worthy opponent.
I love March Madness and look forward each season to the excitement and gallant efforts by all the teams. Basically I am a Duke and Stanford fan, but after deep into the season watching UNC and Gonzaga pull out game after game when a lot was at stake I couldn’t resist the bet I made. The 144 was sort of an ‘educated’ guess.
I am a Professional Golfer, member of the PGA of America. I turned pro on October 1, 1966 so I’m closing in on fifty one years at the same ‘job’ though my mom always asked if I was ever going to get a real job. Over that span I have done virtually every aspect involved in being a pro golfer: Assistant Pro, Head Pro, Teaching Pro, International Golf Schools, playing on the PGA Your, the Senior PGA Tour and the European Senior Tour.
The Charity that I would pick for your gracious offer, is Easterseals. My wonderful wife now, was a single parent, very little money for even the bare necessities of life and her little girl was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Easterseals stepped up to the plate and for several summers in a row sent her to the famous Easterseals Camp. They were vacations that she will always carry in her heart. Her name is Naomi, and her mother, now also my wife, is Lee. Along with Naomi’s joy, Lee would enjoy a whole week’s break from the tremendous responsibility associated with the disease and allowed her to recharge her batteries.”
