Corporate Info
Mitchell® Golf Equipment Institute was formed as a natural outgrowth of the success enjoyed by Mitchell® Golf with its club repair performance upgrade & fitting equipment. Ed Mitchell, 43 year PGA member, started his company by developing the STEELCLUB® Angle Machine in 1988 because of a need to help his students enjoy the game more.
The STEELCLUB® Angle Machine changed the golf industry. Prior to its existence, the golf industry believed that cast iron clubs and 17-4 stainless steel metal woods could not be adjusted. There was also a belief that you could not bend a Ping iron. But the STEELCLUB® Angle Machine debunked all of those myths and a new industry was born.
During the 1990’s, all major club manufacturers embraced dynamic club fitting by offering fitting carts. This has now given way to performance fitting using launch monitors. Aftermarket golf shafts with proven tour performance are now dominating driver fitting.
During the course of the past 22 years, Mitchell® Golf Equipment Company has become the industry leader in professional grade club repair performance upgrade & fitting equipment. Its equipment is number one in tour vans worldwide, with PGA Tour Professionals, PGA Golf Professionals, golf instructors, retail golf stores, club repair technicians, club fitters, club makers and hobbyist.
As Mitchell® Golf’s offering of equipment increased, it became evident that the industry was returning to its roots with a bigger demand on club repair performance upgrades and fitting at the point of purchase. Custom clubs were no longer something you ordered and waited to receive. It has become a customer service that requires trained personnel equipped with the best knowledge and machines to produce the best performing golf clubs.
That is why Ed Mitchell decided his company needed to offer education and Mitchell® Golf Equipment Institute was formed in 1999. Class curriculums are designed to meet the industry professional’s need to service today’s golf clubs. They teach professional tour van repair skills and recognized industry procedures for re-shafting, re-gripping and loft/lie/face angle adjustments, the latest in shaft technology and club & putter fitting using the latest launch monitor technology. A school just for teaching professionals to learn how to add club performance evaluation and alterations to their lesson program is offered.
Mitchell® Golf Equipment Institute hopes to again change the golf industry. It believes that every industry professional selling golf clubs should have the knowledge, training and equipment to know the exact performance specifications of the clubs they sell. In other words, clubs should not be sold “off the rack” but rather sold to perform their best for every golfer. Performance fitting has become the norm for selling golf clubs. This is accomplished through club evaluation and alterations.
