It was great to be a part of the PGA Merchandise show this year. I enjoyed seeing new companies, learning about new products, greeting old friends and meeting new ones. The technology that is available today is truly amazing and I think it will have a very positive effect on the game of golf. I couldn’t think of a better way to start the week then by attending demo day on Tuesday – Orange County National hosts the event on their oval shaped driving range and if you have never been there it is quite the sight!
Custom fitting and instruction are two words that are being used in the same sentence now more than ever, which is why I made a point to attend the Todd Sones Impact Golf seminar – How Teaching and Fitting Should Always be Tied Together. I really enjoyed listening to Todd explain the importance of how these two aspects of golf must go hand in hand. I also have stressed the importance of club fitting and how many factors – including club specifications, swing and body changes and club designs – all affect a golfer’s swing and how instructors must pay attention to all these factors when analyzing their students.
It was great to see so many of the OEM’s that use Mitchell equipment in the tour vans, fitting and repair rooms and build shops. The week is a great way to bring so many people that live the game of golf to one place! On my rounds I stopped by Areso Golf to chat with Rock Wu. Areso helps golfers with one of the most important aspect of the game: putting. And what better way to quickly and accurately bend any USGA approved putter than with the Mitchell Golf TourGauge Putter Machine!
I also made time to wrap up the week with Aaron Waltz, PGM Director at Ferris State University and Ken Jones, PGM Direction at Campbell University. It was a great opportunity to catch up and talk shop. I look forward to the PGA show every year to learn from some of the great leaders in the industry. I hope everyone has a great 2019 and I look forward to connecting soon!
