Green jackets, a Golden Bear, and red pimentos. Another Masters Tournament is here!

The 2019 Masters Tournament will be the 83rd edition of the Masters Tournament and the first of golf’s four major championships to be held in 2019. There is a lot of history associated with Augusta National, and we’d like to has some fun by sharing with you some of the interesting tidbits.

Augusta National members began wearing the jackets in 1937 to make them easily identifiable so they could answer questions from patrons. The first green jacket was awarded to a winner when Sam Snead won the tournament in 1949. The Master of the Masters, Jack Nicklaus, is the oldest winner. He won his 6th victory at 46 years old. The youngest? Tiger Woods at 21 years old.

So, if only the winner gets a jacket, what does the runner up get? Here’s the other hardware:

Runner-up: Silver medal, silver salver

Amateur Runner-up: Silver medal

Par-3 Contest winner: Crystal pedestal bowl

Par-3 hole-in-one: Crystal vase

Par-3 nearest to flagstick: Crystal pitcher

Double eagle: Large crystal bowl

As thousands of fans make the pilgrimage in spring to see the greats of golf compete, there is also a dish with a reputation for greatness all its own: The beloved pimento cheese sandwich, still a bargain at $1.50. While the combination of shredded cheese, mayo, and diced red pimentos has been associated as a favorite Southern dish, the delicious spread actually got its start in more northern parts: New York.

It should be another great Masters tournament this year. For more on the players, click on https://www.masters.com/en_US/players/player_list.html which will take you to the Master’s website.
